There was once a girl. She lay beautiful broken under the star-filled sky with the back of her clothes moist from the dewy grass. Her dark eyes reflected each burning sphere above her, adding to the natural sparkle in them. It was well past midnight—past her curfew—but she didn't care. She couldn't go back to her house. Her parents were arguing again over the same thing. Her dad didn't pay her mother too much attention and her mother was constantly nagging him for it. It all started off with small bickering here and there, but over the past few years it's become more of a fight for each other's sanity than anything else. But what hurt the most wasn't the fact that they couldn't stand each other anymore, it was the fact that both of them failed to acknowledge that they had a daughter listening to them every night. Selena knew her parents were destined for divorce and she actually preferred that over them being together. Together, they could only hurt each other; something that killed her inside slowly. She lay outside my window, just a few feet away from my front door. I found it odd that this girl would sprawl her dainty body across my lawn, but there she was. I didn't know who she was or what she was doing here, but she was a curious thing dressed in her pink and purple pajama pants and a bright yellow sweater.
